Why Choose the Purair FLOW?

Designed for sample, product, and process protection, Purair® FLOW combines ISO Class 5 air cleanliness with efficient vertical laminar airflow and a compact, accessible design. Standard HEPA filtration, energy-efficient operation, and flexible installation options make it an ideal solution for a wide range of laboratory applications.

Vertical laminar downflow with standard HEPA filtration provides ISO Class 5 air cleanliness, with optional ULPA filtration for enhanced performance.

A large open front provides unrestricted access, while clear back and side panels offer 360-degree visibility throughout the work area.

Three standard widths from 24 to 48 inches accommodate different workspaces, with optional fixed stands or mobile carts for added versatility.

IMPORTANT

Purair® FLOW protects the product, sample and work process – not the operator. It is not a chemical fume hood and not a biological safety cabinet. Do not use it for hazardous chemical vapors, infectious or potentially infectious biological materials, or other applications requiring personnel or environmental containment.

When Should I Choose Purair FLOW?

Protects sensitive samples from airborne particulate contamination.

Delivers consistently clean air across the work surface.

Ideal for processes requiring a clean, controlled environment.

When Should I Choose a Ductless Fume Hood?

Helps protect personnel from hazardous airborne chemical contaminants.

How does the Purair FLOW Work?

Room air enters at the top of the cabinet through a disposable polyester pre-filter that captures larger particles and helps extend main-filter life. The blower distributes air evenly across the HEPA filter. Filtered air then travels vertically downward through the work zone at an average initial setpoint velocity of 0.30 m/s (60 fpm), helping flush airborne particulate contamination from the work area before the air exits through the open front.

How Does Multiplex™ Filtration Technology Work?

The Purair® FLOW uses Multiplex™ Filtration Technology to deliver clean, filtered air to the work surface. Air passes through a pre-filter that captures larger particles before moving through a high-efficiency HEPA filter that removes fine airborne contaminants.

Optional ULPA filtration provides an additional level of particulate removal for applications requiring enhanced air cleanliness. Together, these filtration stages help maintain a clean working environment and protect sensitive materials from airborne contamination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to our frequently asked questions and links to additional helpful information.

Purair FLOW is an ISO Class 5 clean bench designed to protect samples, products and work processes from airborne particulate contamination. HEPA-filtered air moves vertically downward through the work zone to provide a clean working environment.

Yes. Purair FLOW uses vertical laminar airflow, so it may also be described as a vertical laminar flow hood or laminar flow cabinet. For customer-facing copy, Air Science should primarily call it a clean bench because its purpose is to provide clean air for product, sample and process protection.

In this application, the terms are commonly used for the same general type of equipment. ‘Clean bench’ describes the purpose – a clean work zone for non-hazardous materials – while ‘vertical laminar flow’ describes the unidirectional airflow pattern used by Purair FLOW.

No. Purair FLOW is designed to protect the work zone, not the operator. Air leaves through the open front of the cabinet, so it should not be used for hazardous materials that require personnel or environmental containment.

No. A biological safety cabinet is designed to provide defined biological containment and personnel protection. Purair FLOW is a clean bench for non-hazardous work where product or process protection is required.

No. The brochure specifies non-hazardous applications where user protection from biologicals or biohazardous byproducts is not required. Work involving infectious or potentially infectious materials should be evaluated for an appropriate biological safety cabinet.

Purair FLOW is not a chemical fume hood and should not be used to control hazardous chemical vapors. If the process generates hazardous vapors, Air Science should review the application for a Purair BASIC, Purair ADVANCED or other appropriate containment solution.

Purair FLOW is designed to maintain ISO Class 5 air quality in the work zone when properly operated and maintained.

A HEPA main filter is standard, with published efficiency of 99.97% at 0.3 microns. A disposable polyester pre-filter with 85% arrestance helps capture larger particles and extend HEPA filter life.

Yes. An optional ULPA filter is available with published efficiency of 99.999% at 0.12 microns.

Purair FLOW maintains an average vertical downflow velocity of 0.30 m/s (60 fpm) at the initial setpoint, measured 6 inches / 150 mm from the filter face.

Purair FLOW is available in nominal 24, 36 and 48 inch widths. All current models have an internal height of approximately 23.29 inches and an internal depth of 22.5 inches.

Yes. Purair FLOW is designed for desktop use. Optional fixed stands, base cabinets and mobile carts are also available.

Yes. An optional mobile base stand with locking casters is available. After relocation, the cabinet should be positioned correctly and its performance verified before critical work resumes.

Filter life depends on particulate loading, operating hours, pre-filter maintenance and environmental conditions. Filter condition and cabinet performance should be monitored, and replacement should be based on the applicable maintenance and certification program rather than a universal time interval.

The Purair FLOW filter assembly is designed for easy, tool-free filter replacement. Appropriate procedures should still be followed to protect the new filter, maintain the gasket seal and verify cabinet performance after replacement.

Pre-filter replacement depends on environmental dust loading and use. Inspect it routinely and replace it as needed to maintain airflow and help protect the main HEPA or ULPA filter.

No. Purair FLOW is a self-contained clean bench. It draws room air through the top filtration system and discharges the filtered downflow air through the open front of the cabinet.

The current Purair FLOW brochure identifies the product as protected by the Air Science Legacy Limited Lifetime Warranty™. Refer to the current Air Science Warranty information for terms, conditions and coverage.
